The Rockies 60-Minute Master Plan

Phase 1: Warmup & Focus

0:00 - 0:08

5m Stretch: Ease in, get sillies out, then transition to quick team huddle to discuss our identity for the season. Emphasize listening to coaches. They are old enough now to be expected to compose themselves and pay attention. The Rockies are all about fun, but that does not mean goofing off. It means working together to achieve successful outcomes, that is the fun we want to have.

3m Huddle: The 3 S's: Safety, Sportsmanship, Success. Focus, Respect, All-Out Effort, and Toughness (No Quitting).

Coach Note: 1 coach should lead the stretching, other coaches should consolidate gloves and equipment and setup for the diamond dogs drill (just need 4 bases laid out).

Phase 2: Diamond Dogs

0:08 - 0:15

Full team sprints around the bases starting at home. Crucial: Boys must cheer their teammates to earn their turn to run.

Coach Note: There should be a first base coach and a third base coach. These coaches should be watching very closely how the boys run the bases. If they are not rounding as they go, the coaches need to find time to instruct them. The boys have to touch every base including home; if they do not, their times are not recorded.

Phase 3: "Field Commander" Scramble

0:15 - 0:25

Concept: Gather all the kids in the dugout or home plate area. Point out and review the locations of each position on the field. Then, randomly call out fielding assignments for each player ("Jack, Shortstop!"). They must sprint to that position as quickly as possible.

Coach Note: This simulates the chaotic energy of taking the field after retiring the opposing side, while heavily reinforcing their spatial knowledge of where every position actually lives on the diamond.

Phase 4: Dual Station Rotations (20m Total)

Station A: Force Out Logic

For Half the Team

Situational fielding at SS and 2B. Focus on bag coverage at 2nd and accurate throws to 1st for force-outs. Coach dictates the play target mid-roll.

Station B: Power & Hip-Turn

For Half the Team

Batting drill off the tee. Swing mechanics focusing on turning hips (Williams) and aggressive bat progression. Rotate halfway through the 20m block.

Phase 5: Live Sim (Coach Pitch & Play)

0:45 - 0:55

Full team takes their likely starting field positions. A coach pitches live to individual batters to simulate real-game conditions.

Each kid gets about 5 swings. On the final swing (hit or miss), they must run to first base and keep going if the hit was deep.

Defense Rule: On EVERY ball contacted by the batter, the fielders MUST cleanly secure the ball and throw down to 1st base to simulate an active game out mechanism, regardless of which pitch it is.

Phase 6: The Closing Ceremony

0:55 - 1:00

Review core philosophy. Distribute Baseball Cards (Rewards). Final huddle break...
